This experience was both an academic and adventurous one and a personal journey toward discovering my future. As a History major, I not only learned more about the culture and history of Cape Town, South Africa, but this experience also solidified that education and assisting students is where I belong.

By the time she enrolled at the University of West Alabama, Carlyn Rawls was already captivated by the notion of studying abroad. Reared in Millbrook just north of the state Capitol, she soon learned options were bountiful for curious students without fear of moving to the globeโ€™s opposite side. Itโ€™s an experience she sought.

The impetus for Dr. Thomas Saileโ€™s 5,000-mile journey from southeast Germany to the University of West Alabama is steeped in academic cooperation between institutions separated by international borders and the Atlantic Ocean. But it also carries a simplistic twist.
The short-term, faculty-led UWA in Ireland program began in 2018 as a cost-effective way to broaden the universityโ€™s global reach and create a study-abroad option that featured neither language barriers nor exorbitant costs for students because of the compressed schedule, Riser said.
