Department of Public Safety

With community service as our foundation, UWA is committed to the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property and the preservation of peace, order and safety. 

Disbursement and Repayment

Disbursements to student accounts typically occur on the first day of each week.  Any credit balance can be expected to be refunded within three (3) business days.

Division of Economic and Workforce Development 

The Division of Economic and Workforce Development at the University of West Alabama is dedicated to fostering economic growth and workforce development in the Black Belt region of Alabama. Their mission is to support the region’s economic vitality and long-term prosperity by serving as a catalyst for new investments and a resource for existing businesses. 

Division of Outreach Services

The Division of Outreach Services works to assist and help promote the region’s economy through the growth of economic development, workforce development and partnerships with external organizations. The division coordinates a wide range of events, programs and workshops. We also seek to provide resources for the enhancement of government and community leadership, business activity, civic engagement and personal endeavors throughout the West Alabama region.

A great deal of what you learn during your college years and most of your favorite memories will take place outside the classroom. Our mission is to support and enhance your “out-of-class” experience through programming, student organizations, counseling, campus housing, activities and through the services you need with scholarships, financial aid, advisement, transcripts and orientation. 

Educational Outreach 

The Division of Educational Outreach at the University of West Alabama is comprised of bby Publications at UWA, the Black Belt Museum, Center for the Study of the Black Belt, and Continuing Education, all of which which seek to meet the social and cultural educational needs of the Alabama Black Belt region while promoting the historical, cultural and natural resources of the region.

Human Resources

UWA’s Human Resources Department supports the faculty and staff in a way that allows everyone to simultaneously strive to meet his or her goals while accomplishing the designed objectives of the University. The office provides Training and development opportunities and resources for onboarding, administering salary and benefits and implementing policies and procedures.  

Julia Tutwiler Library

Yes, the library has books. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You’ll find technology for a variety of uses, including research and writing guides, special collections and so much more. 

Office of Information Technology

Information Technology works in partnership with all areas of the University to ensure all systems function as needed to ensure UWA’s goal of providing “the total educational experience.” 

Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning conducts comprehensive data collection, analysis and reporting and university-wide assessment to support strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.  

Office of Sponsored Programs, Research & Outreach

The Office of Sponsored Programs, Research & Outreach (OSPRO) provides assistance to faculty, staff and students seeking external funds through proposal development and aids in the management of awarded grants. 

Office of Strategic Communications

The Office of Strategic Communications, a division of Institutional Advancement, builds the UWA brand by communicating with integrity, efficiency and creativity. We share the stories of UWA students, faculty, and staff, grow our scholarly reputation and work to serve our community, state, region and beyond. 

Office of Title IX

The Office of Title IX enforces Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. 

Printing Services

UWA Printing Services provides the University and surrounding communities with high-quality printing, graphic design, copying, mailing, binding and a host of other graphic visual products. 

Registrar

The Registrar’s Office provides a wide range of services to students, faculty and staff, alumni, and various off-campus agencies and accurately maintains and protects students’ permanent records. 

Registration Tools

The Registrar’s Office provides tools to aid in student registration, online student registration, and faculty advising. 

SACSCOC Accreditation

UWA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, education specialist and doctoral degrees.

Transfer Partnerships & Equivalencies

UWA has partnerships with various community colleges in Alabama and Mississippi and gives students the opportunity to self-evaluate coursework taken at a partner institution. 

University Staff Senate 

The University of West Alabama Staff Senate unites the university’s community in a shared commitment to education and knowledge. It promotes understanding and cooperation between administration, faculty, and staff to advance the institution’s goals.  

Updating and Amending Records

Students who wish to change their names can do so within the Office of the Registrar through a form provided for that purpose. 

UWA Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Supportive Services 

The University of West Alabama DBE Supportive Services (UWA DBESS) provides resources, individual business counseling, group training and technical assistance to Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT)-certified DBE’s, minority, disadvantaged and women firms to contribute to the firm’s growth and self-sufficiency. 

Veteran’s Assistance
