Gross and microscopic anatomy and functions of the integumentary, skeletal, nervous and muscular systems of the human body. Cannot be used to satisfy requirements for a major or minor in biology. Three lecture hours and two laboratory hours per week. Prerequisites: BY101, BY103 or BY104.
The Interdisciplinary Studies Pre-Nursing Track is not a degree-granting major. It allows students with an interest in nursing to have the opportunity to take basic curriculum courses that are pertinent to the nursing major (54 hours). Students cannot receive a nursing degree with this track, but can receive a BS in the IDS Pre-Nursing track. Students must apply to the Division of Nursing to be admitted into the Pre-Nursing Track.

Provides the study of medications through the introduction of the drug classification system. It provides a theoretical foundation encompassing drug actions, adverse effects, drug/food interactions and age-related issues as well as the skill of calculation of dosages. Emphasis is placed on the safe administration of medications in a variety of clinical facilities and situations.
UWA104 Freshman Seminar in Nursing
2 Credits
This course is designed for students who intend to apply for admission to the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program. Students will develop essential skills and adapt to university-level studies and the unique environment of the campus community. General strategies for success in college will be presented and specific resources at The University of West Alabama will be explored. An emphasis is placed on the use of technology, building study habits and test-taking strategies and learning basic concepts that are essential for the nursing major.
