Two graduate students in the University of West Alabama’s sport management program recently engaged in real-world projects through Riipen, the world’s largest experiential learning marketplace.
This experience was both an academic and adventurous one and a personal journey toward discovering my future. As a History major, I not only learned more about the culture and history of Cape Town, South Africa, but this experience also solidified that education and assisting students is where I belong.

After spending more than four years studying to be an athletic trainer, first at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and then the University of West Alabama, Mahkayla Young abruptly switched her major to integrated marketing communications.

Lucas Hammond can’t remember when tennis wasn’t part of his life. As a toddler, he would often sit in a basket on the court at the tennis club and hand his dad tennis balls. When he was old enough to hold a racket, he started playing. Now the exercise science major from Las Vegas, Nevada, has his sights set on playing the sport professionally after graduating from the University of West Alabama in May.
For more than 20 years, the University of West Alabama has offered a hands-on learning opportunity for accounting students to prepare individual state and federal income tax returns at no charge to the tax payer through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which receives grant assistance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through ImpactAmerica.
Adonis Williams was in junior high before he experienced what it is like to have a male educator in a classroom. One of only a few male students in the junior and senior blocks studying elementary education on campus at the University of West Alabama, Williams and his classmates are doing their part to break the cycle for the next generation.
