Position Functions:

The UWA WIOA Career Pathways for Youth Program is housed within the Division of Economic and Workforce Development (DEWD) at The University of West Alabama. The UWA WIOA Youth Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is designed to help at-risk youth between the ages of 18 and 24 develop career skills and provide them with the training necessary to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). The program’s part-time instructor will assist with instruction and support of the participants. The primary role will be lab instruction. However, some classroom theory and clinical instruction is expected. The instructor will assist the WIOA Program Director, Data and Reporting Specialist, and Case Manager to ensure the program runs smoothly. This position reports to the WIOA Program Director and to the Vice President of the Division of Economic and Workforce Development.

This is a grant-funded position. No guarantee or commitment is made for future or continued employment beyond the award of the grant or the terms of the contract.

Qualifications:

Essential

  1. Current Alabama Nursing License as an RN or LPN (or multi-state licensure allowing nursing practice in the state of Alabama).
  2. Two years of nursing experience, with at least one year of experience caring for geriatric patients.
  3. Adult teaching experience by ONE of the following: (*an otherwise qualified candidate who does not meet this qualification can be selected but MUST attend an approved Train-the-Trainer Course)
  1. Masters in nursing
  2. Attended an approved Alabama Train-the-Trainer course
  3. Completed instructor training at American Red Cross (include copy of instructor certification)
  4. Experience teaching at the college level.
  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  2. Experience working in a team setting.
  3. Strong time-management and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  1. Registered Nurse.
  2. Clinical supervision and training experience.
  3. Teaching experience.
  4. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, and email.
  5. Quick learner who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and deadline-focused.

Responsibilities:

  1. Instruct CNA students according to the program’s approved curriculum.
  2. Determine barriers to success for participants and serve as a mentor/advisor.
  3. Maintain class records, files, and supplies for the program and coordinate with the Program Director and Case Manager in the management of these files.
  4. Ensure all CNA participants have the required documentation for credentials.
  5. Maintain the program lecture and lab space, including conducting regular inventory of needed supplies.
  6. Prepare students for exams by conducting review sessions as needed.
  7. Supervise clinical rotations.
  8. Coordinate site locations and serve as liaison between clinical sites, Program Director, UWA Division of Nursing, consultants, and DEWD staff.
  9. Work closely with the Vice President, WIOA Program Director, and WIOA Case Manager to successfully implement the program.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President or WIOA Program Director.
  11. Serve as liaison with the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Compensation:                

Hourly Pay Rate: Dependent on qualifications and experience (12 hrs./week per 10-week contract with three contract sessions available: fall, early spring, and late spring).
