Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to effectively engage with preschool students, staff, faculty, and administration.
  • Dedication to implementing creative and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Clear background check.
  • Flexibility and willingness to uphold “Best Practice” principles in teaching.
  • Capacity to integrate recent research and best practices into classroom activities.

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in the State of Alabama with endorsements for relevant subject areas.
  • Compliance with requirements established by the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR).
  • Previous experience working in educational settings, preferably with preschool-aged children.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology for educational purposes.

Responsibilities:

 1. Curriculum Development and Implementation: 

  • Develop and implement daily and weekly activities based on age-appropriate interests and developmental needs. 
  • Utilize a variety of teaching materials, toys, and activities to engage children and promote learning. 
  • Foster a nurturing environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and social interaction among children. 

2. Child Development and Assessment: 

  • Observe and assess children’s developmental progress, including language, social, emotional, and physical skills. 
  • Maintain records of observations and developmental milestones to track each child’s growth and development. 
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians to discuss observations and support children’s individual needs and interests. 

3. Classroom Management: 

  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming classroom environment for all children. 
  • Implement positive guidance techniques and behavior management strategies to promote cooperation and self-regulation. 
  • Ensure that the classroom is clean, organized, and equipped with age-appropriate materials and toys. 

4. Parent Communication and Engagement: 

  •  Foster open communication with parents/guardians through daily interactions and updates. 
  •  Provide opportunities for parents to participate in classroom activities and events, such as family nights or parent workshops. 
  • Collaborate with parents to support children’s transitions between home and daycare and address any concerns or questions they may have. 

5. Professional Development:  

  • Attend at least 1 training session, workshop, PD, and/or conference per quarter to enhance teaching skills and stay current on best practices in early childhood education. 
  • Participate in reflective practices and professional development opportunities to continually improve teaching effectiveness and childcare practices.
