When fall classes begin at the University of West Alabama in August, it will mark the beginning of the 38th year on campus for Provost Dr. Tina N. Jones, but her last at the helm of academics for the 190-year-old institution. Jones will retire September 30 following a career that spans decades in the classroom and University outreach, shaping academic and career paths for her students and empowering growth for the State of Alabama.
The University of West Alabama is moving forward with its new health sciences comprehensive respiratory therapy track and is accepting students in January for the Spring 2025 semester.
The 2025 Loraine McIlwain Bell Trustee Awards and the Nellie Rose McCrory Service Excellence Award were presented to distinguished employees at UWA.

Catalina Casaru first set foot in the United States as a determined high school student eager to make her mark in competitive swimming. Today, she is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Romania and an associate professor of Exercise Science at the University of West Alabama.

Dr. Jacob Snyder serves as an associate professor at UWA, leading a new degree in the College of Liberal Arts: Politics and Justice. He envisions the degree as a steppingstone for students interested in law and politics.
Donovan Dicker became the first UWA student to intern with ARD Logistics and earned the company’s prestigious Terenne Graham Award, recognizing exceptional interns that go above and beyond.
During Homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 26, the University of West Alabama announced its 2024 Homecoming Queen, Chloe Baker of Tuscaloosa.
