All eyes were on UWA's new DECA chapter as they competed for the first time in the International Collegiate DECA Conference in San Francisco. They were the only chapter from Alabama attending the conference.
Livingston State Farm agent Cody Mordecai has funded a new scholarship opportunity for University of West Alabama first generation students from Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Pickens or Choctaw counties through The FLi Society, a student organization established to raise the profile of the first-generation population at UWA and offer support and encouragement to those students.

Two University of West Alabama engineering technology students recently participated in a 10-week paid internship at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee, the largest U.S. Department of Energy science and energy laboratory. While there, the students worked the laboratoryโ€™s specialized areas of scientific discovery, clean energy solutions and security technologies.

The University of West Alabama will honor more than 800 graduates during fall commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 8. The undergraduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Pruitt Gymnasium on the UWA campus. The graduate ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m., also at Pruitt Gymnasium. Presidential Receptions will be held prior to each ceremony and are open to all graduates and their guests at 8 a.m. and noon in the Bell Conference Center.

The University of West Alabama has been ranked as the best among colleges and universities in Alabama in a national listing of 2019 College & University rankings. The WalletHub report ranking includes both public four-year schools and private, not-for-profit, four-year schools nationwide, and UWA is the highest ranking school in Alabama.

On Tuesday, Nov. 13, and Wednesday, Nov. 14 University of West Alabama alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends will come together for the second annual UWA Giving Day, a two-day fundraising drive to benefit initiatives across campus and future Tigers.
The University of West Alabamaโ€™s Marengo County Alumni Chapter will meet Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Coplin Building in downtown Demopolis. The event includes hors dโ€™oeuvres and drinks beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief program beginning at 6 p.m.
The University of West Alabamaโ€™s Project Engage 2.0 will welcome aerospace engineer Dr. Aprille J. Ericsson to campus on Thursday, Sept. 27 for two programs. Ericsson comes to UWA from NASA and Washington, D.C. Project Engage 2.0 is a STEM-focused initiative steered by University faculty and supported by a U.S. Department of Education grant.
The University of West Alabamaโ€™s 2018 Homecoming festivities will include a concert featuring headliners Thompson Square on Thursday, Oct. 25. The concert is open to the public, with general admission and VIP tickets available. The concert will be staged on the quad area between Lyon Hall and Bibb Graves Hall. The concert starts at 8 p.m. with opening act Tana Matz.
The University of West Alabamaโ€™s Julia Tutwiler Library and Office of Alumni Affairs will co-host a book talk by author and historian Dr. James P. Pate at the library from 5:30-7 p.m. after the football game against Delta State University on Saturday, October 13. The public is invited to attend this free event. A wine and cheese reception will follow the reading, and Pate will sign copies that will be available for sale.
