Dr. Cheryl Lambert has been named dean of the Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education at the University of West Alabama.
Dr. Lambert comes to UWA from Austin Peay State University, where she has been a member of the faculty in the Eriksson College of Education since 2017, rising in rank to associate professor and tenure in the fall of 2024. She has served as chairperson of the Teaching and Learning Department there since 2021, according to the announcement from UWA Provost Dr. Tina Jones.
In her current role at APSU, she also has had oversight of APSU’s Center for Rural Education. Her emphasis on rural education, student ownership of learning, classroom management, and school district partnerships suit her very well to lead UWA’s teacher education programs and outreach as we continue to be a leader in addressing Alabama’s teacher shortage with high-quality, well-equipped educators.
In addition, Dr. Lambert brings with her K-12 school district-level experience in elementary teaching, instructional coaching, secondary supervision, and special education supervision within the West Carroll Special School District for 12 years.
Dr. Lambert holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Memphis, an M.S. in School Counseling from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a B.S. in Education (K-8) from UT Martin.
