Sandy Dial recently celebrated a milestone few ever achieve—50 years of continued service at the same place of employment. Half a century after she first walked into the university’s Physical Plant office for her first day of work, she’s still here and going strong.

UWA tennis player rallies for an opportunity to go pro after college

Lucas Hammond can’t remember when tennis wasn’t part of his life. As a toddler, he would often sit in a basket on the court at the tennis club and hand his dad tennis balls. When he was old enough to hold a racket, he started playing. Now the exercise science major from Las Vegas, Nevada, has his sights set on playing the sport professionally after graduating from the University of West Alabama in May.

UWA police department stresses student safety through upcoming tire change instructional clinic and impaired driving presentation

To encourage safety on the road before the University of West Alabama’s spring break, March 25 through 29, the University Police Department is offering two events: a tire change instructional clinic Wednesday, March 20, from 1-3 p.m. and an impaired driving and Fatal Vision® presentation Thursday, March 21 beginning at 6 p.m. that lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

UWA accounting students offer free income tax help through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program

For more than 20 years, the University of West Alabama has offered a hands-on learning opportunity for accounting students to prepare individual state and federal income tax returns at no charge to the tax payer through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which receives grant assistance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through ImpactAmerica.

Dr. Mark Davis is excited about UWA’s new Global Scholars Community Scholarship, an exclusive program designed to elevate students’ academic experience and shape a more interconnected future. These new scholarship opportunities are aimed at incoming high school seniors and for current UWA freshmen. To be considered for this prestigious scholarship, applications must be submitted by April 15, 2024.

One UWA elementary education major knows sometimes it’s better to stand out than fit in

Adonis Williams was in junior high before he experienced what it is like to have a male educator in a classroom. One of only a few male students in the junior and senior blocks studying elementary education on campus at the University of West Alabama, Williams and his classmates are doing their part to break the cycle for the next generation.
