Event expected to advance economic, small business, entrepreneurship and rural development across Alabama
The University of West Alabama will host an exhibit of works by woodturning artist Bill Hubbard beginning Feb. 20. The spring exhibit will be on display on campus in Webb Hall Gallery. An opening reception will be held at 2 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.
The University of West Alabama launched its revitalized music major this fall, bringing opportunities for students with a broad range of music interests to prepare for occupations and activities. The new program is gaining popularity among students as well as community members like Charlie and Linda Muñoz, who have shown their support with a digital grand piano for performances on campus.
The University of West Alabama has been awarded a $2.5 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Delta Regional Authority to expand the impact of workforce development efforts through the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities initiative. UWA is one of only eight organizations in the five states across the Delta region to receive the award.

Human Trafficking 101 Class

The University of West Alabama Police Department will host a one-day human trafficking awareness class on Wednesday, June 12. The event offers training free of charge for law enforcement, first responders, prosecutors, judges, probation officers, victim service providers, social workers, healthcare professionals, and educators.

Dr. Valerie Pope Burnes, associate professor of history at UWA, will preside over the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Alabama Historical Association when it convenes in Tuscaloosa from April 25-27. Burnes was elected president of the Association in April 2018, and will finish out her term as president at the Tuscaloosa meeting.
