I am from Meridian, Mississippi, where I attended Northeast High School. I transferred to UWA after attending my community college. I did not want to attend school in my city, but I still wanted to be close to home, to visit my family often. My first encounter with a former faculty member made a difference for me, and I knew that UWA was where I wanted to finish my college journey. As a student, I was an ambassador, a Trio SSS member, and a Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority member. I completed my internship here at the university within the former admissions office. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. After being a student here for three years, I am happy to be working on campus!
Favorite Place on Campus:
My favorite place on campus is the nature trails by Lake LU. I love being outdoors and seeing the different nature paths. Lake LU provides a safe and calm space to be at peace with your thoughts or get out of your dorm. Whenever I have free time, Lake LU is definitely my go-to place.
Favorite UWA Tradition:
Without a question, the homecoming bonfire is my favorite tradition on campus. The bonfire is taller than I have ever seen, which draws more students to it because of its height. No doubt everyone loves the bonfire.
What do you love most about UWA:
The willingness to help and care from faculty and peers. UWA has many resources, like free tutoring, the CARES closet, and scholarship opportunities. While being a student at UWA, I met some lovely faculty and students who would go above and beyond to make sure everyone around them was cared for. UWA is a helping campus regardless of a student’s resources or financial status.
Piece of Advice for Prospective Students:
Choosing a college/university can be a lot of pressure! I encourage all students to visit the campuses of the universities you are interested in and speak to students who attend the college already. Find the clubs and majors that interest you and choose a college that feels like home to you. We hope that it is with us!
