Mr. Donald R. Mills has been employed with The University of West Alabama since September 2007 as Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Mr. Mills currently directs the SBDC and the Alabama Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Supportive Service Program. Mr. Mills has over 35 years of experience in small business, community, and economic development working with the SBDC and DBE SS at Alabama State University from 1987 to 2007. Mr. Mills has a passion for small businesses and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Mills completed the DLN's Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Program - Authentic Leadership Institute in November of 2017. He is a 2013 graduate of the Delta Regional Leadership Academy. He was awarded the National Transportation Civil Rights Conference Certification for 2000, 2002, and 2004. He completed Oklahoma University's Economic Development Certification in 2009 and California Economic Development Associations Economic Development Certification (CALED) in 2008.
Mr. Mills currently serves on the Executive Board of the Alabama Microenterprise Network (AMN). He is a native of Saraland, Alabama (North Mobile County), and has served as Minister of Music for New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Saraland for the past 38 years.
