Dr. Hutchinson has been a full-time faculty member at UWA since 2011. In that time, he has taught undergraduate and graduate sport management courses within the Physical Education and Athletic Training Department and the College of Business and Technology. The courses that he is currently teaching include Introduction to Sport Management, Sport and Exercise Legal Issues, Psychology and Sociology of Sport and Exercise, Athletic Administration Seminar, Sport Management Marketing, Sport Management Seminar, Internship, Practicum in Sport Management, and Special Topics in Sport Management.
Additionally, Dr. Hutchinson serves as the Chair of The Alabama Council of University Faculty Presidents. He is a member of the UWA Athletic Faculty Committee, a member of the UWA MBA/DBA Committee, a member of the UWA Strategic Planning Committee, a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and is an Executive Committee Member of the Alabama Association of Higher Education Diversity Officers as the Liaison to the Alabama Council of University Presidents.
Prior to UWA, Dr. Hutchinson served as the Executive Director of the Mercedes-Benz Athletic Club in Vance, Alabama. He was responsible for providing fitness programming, increasing membership and providing wellness information to team members.
Dr. Hutchinson completed his Ph.D. at The University of Alabama in Human Performance, where his research included a comparison of health and safety standards between private, public and collegiate exercise facilities. He is also an alumnus of The Florida State University, with a M.S. degree in Movement Science. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in Biology.
He is a member of the Commission of Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), The Alabama Education Association (AEA), The American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). Dr. Hutchinson is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and has served as the Past Polemarch, and Historian/Reporter for his alumni chapter. He is involved in community affairs as a member of the West Alabama Multicultural Alliance (WAMA), has served on the Board of Directors for the Shelton State Community College Wellness Center, is a graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa, a graduate of Leadership Sumter County, and has participated as a speaker for educational success, leadership, and overall achievement.
