Michael Tignor is the Assistant Director of Bands at the University of West Alabama where he assists with the direction of the Marching Tigers, the spring concert ensembles, and directs the “Side Court” Pep Band. He also serves as the Adjunct Instructor of Brass. Prior to coming to UWA, he served as a General Music Specialist in the Jefferson County Public School system (Louisville, Ky) and as the Pep Band Director at Eastern High School (Louisville, Ky.).
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Michael holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from the University of Louisville and the University of South Florida, respectively. He was named the University of Louisville’s first Student Arranger for the Marching Band and continues today as an active arranger. Michael serves on the Social Media Committee of the College Band Directors National Association and is a member of the Alabama Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and International Society for Music Education. He is also a proud alumni member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
