UWA’s Marengo County Alumni Chapter invites friends to Oct. 11 kickoff

Eat, drink, learn about scholarships and other opportunities with Marengo alumni and friends

The University of West Alabama’s Marengo County Alumni Chapter will meet Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Coplin Building in downtown Demopolis. The event includes hors d’oeuvres and drinks beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief program beginning at 6 p.m.

The Marengo Chapter’s fall meeting, the event serves as their membership drive kickoff. They welcome alumni and friends to join in support of scholarships for deserving Marengo County students.

The event will be catered with generous support from Big Mike’s Steakhouse. Naheola Credit Union is the title sponsor of 2018 UWA Alumni events.

No admission will be charged. Instead, the chapter asks that attendees consider a donation to the Marengo County Alumni Scholarship Fund. Alumni and friends can join the chapter for $25 annually, and proceeds directly support scholarships.

“This chapter is open to alumni of the University and also to friends who want to show support for the students in our county who want to go to school in Livingston,” said Marengo Chapter President Steve Henderson. “We have a core of support and want to grow that in a way that helps provide more opportunities to our students in the county. We want to boost our membership to be sure that we have every decade, maybe even every class year, represented. Whether we call ourselves UWA Tigers, Livingston University Tigers, Livingston State College Tigers, we are all Tigers, and we want to share traditions with the next generation.”

At the event, alumni and friends can take photos with LUie the Tiger, learn about UWA Online and other unique opportunities, get updates on UWA Athletics from AD Bobby Wallace, hear University updates from President Ken Tucker, and enjoy fellowship across the University family.
