Dr. Karen Braxton

Assistant Professor

The University of West Alabama's College of Business is home to Dr. Karen Braxton, an assistant professor of management.  In 2016, she decided to concentrate her efforts on helping and inspiring others at UWA after many years of working as an executive in the media industry, including broadcast television, radio, and cable.  The cable industry awarded her Manager of the Year for her leadership abilities, and her division was recognized as one of the Best Places to Work.  She has served on several nonprofit boards, including the Department of Human Resources, Leadership Marengo County, Alabama Communities of Excellence, Alabama Association for Higher Education in Business, and The Magic City Harvest, a food recovery program.  Dr. Braxton is also co-owner of Braxton Senior Care, a nonprofit organization.

Braxton's experience working with Fortune 500 firms in the media industry sparked an interest in economic development, human resources, and marketing.  She got the chance to collaborate with General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Arby's, and others while working as a media executive.  Her dissertation emphasized the necessity of keeping highly competent sales representatives in the media sector.  Her passion for instructing professional development at the College of Business, where students are equipped to handle the challenges and opportunities in the workplace, reflects her continuing focus.

Dr. Braxton received her B.A. and EMBA from the University of Alabama with additional coursework at the É. M. Lyon School of Business in Lyon, France, and Birmingham Southern College.  Karen has a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University.
