What is the baseline scholarship? 

The baseline scholarship for each member of UWA Bands (auxiliary included) is $1,500.

How will I receive higher awards? 

UWA Bands Members will receive higher awards by:

  • Audition quality

  • All-State selection

  • Participating in other ensembles (wind ensemble, jazz band, Side Court Pep Band)

  • Being selected for the leadership team

Where are rehearsals located?

Indoor rehearsals are located in the Foust Hall Band Room. Outdoor rehearsals are located on the Lyon Hall field. 

What are rehearsal hours?  What is the time commitment like?

UWA Wind Ensemble (fall and spring semesters)

  • 4.5 hours of rehearsals week 

  • 3 or 4 performances per semester

  • Possibility of travel for performances 

West Alabama Marching Band (fall semester with limited spring performances)

  • 6 hours per week of rehearsal

  • All home games

  • One full band away game trip

  • Select pep band travel opportunities

  • Mardi Gras parades in Mobile and New Orleans each year

Side Court Pep Band (duration of basketball season)

  • Performs at all home women's and men's basketball games while classes are in session

  • Limited rehearsal, but some may be scheduled to learn new repertoire.

  • Possibility of travel for tournament appearances 

UWA Jazz Band (spring semester)

  • 2-3 hours of rehearsal per week

  • Performances throughout the spring semester with the possibility of tours

What are the audition requirements for wind instruments?

Requirements for wind instruments are as follows:

  • Video or in- person

  • Three major scales of your choice

  • Chromatic scale from your lowest comfortable to your highest comfortable range

  • A 60-90 second solo or etude that you have prepared

What are the audition requirements for percussion?

Requirements for percussion are as follows:

  • Percussion auditions depend on the ensembles in which you would like to perform

    • Drumline audition clinics and camps occur on campus in the spring/summer to determine WAMB Drumline personnel

    • Wind ensemble percussion placement requires an in-person audition on snare/timpani/mallet etudes prepared in advance by the student

    • Jazz Band/Pep Band drum set placement requires an in-person audition on drumset

What are the audition requirements for auxiliary?

Requirements for auxiliary are as follows:

  • Auditions for Flag Line, Dance Line, and Majorette will occur in the spring semester preceding the fall season.

  • A mandatory audition clinic will occur 2-3 weeks before auditions.

    • During the clinic, auditionees will learn the requirements for the audition

What is the cost to be a part of the UWA Bands Program?

Being a part of the UWA Bands Program doesn't cost anything!

  • No band fees

  • We pay YOU!

  • UWA Bands gear provided
