Start A New Student Organization!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a student organization at UWA! Although many informal groups of students exist on campus, some students with similar interests choose to create official student organizations. Numerous organizations with a variety of interests and goals are available for students at UWA and yours can add to this exciting mix of opportunities for student involvement.

Registering a New Student Organization

  1. Schedule a one-on-one consultation with the Director of Student Life to review the New Student Organization proposal form

  2. Provide a roster of at least 8 full-time enrolled students who wish to be members of the proposed organization.

  3. Obtain the agreement of a full-time faculty or staff member to serve as the organization’s advisor.

  4. Create a constitution under which the organization will operate. A sample constitution can be found under the Student Organization Resources tab.

  5. Submit to Student Life a hard copy of the organization’s constitution signed by the chartering students.

  6. Organizations affiliated with an international organization or governing board must submit a letter of recognition from their organization/board.  These letters should be on the international organization’s official letterhead and it should identify a point of contact for the international organization or governing board.

New RSO registration applications will be reviewed twice a year.  Student groups seeking recognition for the fall semester must have met with the Director of Student Life and submitted all registration materials by October 1.  Student groups seeking recognition for the spring semester must have met with the Director of Student Life and submitted all registration materials by February 15.

Once the Student Life Office has approved the registration form, it is then voted on in the next regularly scheduled SGA meeting. Once approved the group is entitled to all the rights and privileges of a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) and must follow the proper steps to maintain good standing with the university.  All new RSOs must wait one semester after approval before the group is eligible to request Student Allocation Funding.
