Libba Baker

I am originally from the small town of Greensboro, Alabama where I attended a very small high school. I knew that attending a huge college was out of the question for me. One of the main reasons I chose UWA was because of its size. UWA was large enough to offer the feel of a big school, but small enough for me to get involved. During April of my senior year, I attended cheerleading tryouts at UWA. Becoming a member of the UWA Cheerleading Team was the deciding factor for me. Although I always thought I would transfer after my first two years, I fell in love with our campus and completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology. While in college I was involved in several campus activities. I served as Captain of the UWA Cheerleading Team, ran on the Cross Country Team, served as CAB Director and President, and was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. I served as Orientation Leader for the Office of Admissions and was selected as Ambassador of the Year my senior year! I was also involved in several honor societies such as Blue Key, Cardinal Key, Alpha Chi, Psi Chi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and student Vice President of Phi Kappa Phi. I was thrilled when UWA gave me the opportunity to stay and work for the institution that I love.

Favorite Place on Campus:  

My favorite place on campus would have to be Tiger Stadium. I spent many Saturdays on the football field cheering, and I made so many memories with some of my best friends that are irreplaceable.

Favorite UWA Tradition: 

I love Spring Fest! It is a great time for students to come out, play games, and get studying off of their minds for a little while. I always enjoyed all of the events of Spring Fest — from the food and games to the band party that night.

What do you love most about UWA:

There are so many aspects of UWA that I love, but I would have to say the people here are my favorite thing. Our slogan is “There’s just something about this place.”  In my opinion, it is the friendly faces you see while on campus. I think by being a smaller school, we offer a very homelike feel for our students, faculty, and staff.

Piece of Advice for Prospective Students:

Focus on your academics, of course. Do not make that your sole priority, though. There are so many other important parts of college to get involved with. Your college experience is what you make it so why not make it the best it can be!
