Maurice Woody Jr.

I am originally from Monroeville, Alabama, where I attended Monroe County High School and graduated in 2017. After graduating high school, I attended Coastal Alabama Community College. I had fun there and decided to further my education at the University of West Alabama, where I fell in love with the different people, the diversity, the events, and the love and care that the campus has given me. I graduated with a Human Performance Comprehensive bachelor’s degree. While on the UWA campus, I have been in several clubs and organizations and held office in a few. I have been a part of Campus ministries, Pe Club, and Intramural Championships. I was a member of several organizations while on campus: President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Alpha Phi Omega, Order of Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, and the SGA representative for the Greek Council. After graduating in the Fall of 2021, I served as a graduate assistant for Intramural Sports. I now can share my experiences with incoming students at the institution I love and will always support.

Favorite Place on Campus:

My favorite place on campus is the Intramural Fields. I have spent many days playing sports and playing with friends playing football, soccer, and softball games to prove who had the best team in the league to become champion.

Favorite UWA Tradition:

Greek week is my favorite UWA tradition. Being a part of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. has allowed me to meet new people and show and tell others about my organization. The activities, community service, food, fun, and games make Greek week memorable and rewarding.

What do you love most about UWA:

When I first came to campus, it felt like coming home. Once I met other students, staff, and faculty, I knew I had found my place. That feeling of belonging is one of the many reasons I love telling students about our college!

Piece of Advice for Prospective Students:

Make academics a priority; that’s my advice to any incoming student. You will have time to have fun on and off campus but take your time when you need to study and get good grades.
