Department of English and History

Speak the Language of Success

The Department of English and History houses programs that specialize in History, English, English Language Arts: Teacher Certification, Spanish and French and the Livingston Press.

English majors may choose between the conventional English major (the BS or BA degree) or the English Language Arts: Teacher Certification major, which, in conjunction with the College of Education, prepares students for teaching in the public school system.

When you become educated in History, Political Science, Anthropology or Public History, you see society’s larger picture in greater context. Through your coursework, you will learn to gather facts, assess opinions, debate and defend your own thoughts with evidence and make a reasonable, articulate argument.

This area of study prepares you to excel in a wide variety of careers as any professional environment requires the cognitive skills you’ll develop in this program.
