Provisional Certificate in a Teaching Field (PCTF)
This is an alternative approach to Alabama professional certification. A certificate may be requested in certain teaching fields for an individual who has met requirements of the AECTP and has earned at least a bachelor’s degree with an overall grade point average of at least 2.5, from a senior institution that was regionally accredited at the time the degree was earned. The required GPA must be the official overall GPA as defined by the degree-granting institution and as posted on the official transcript of the degree-granting institution.

Applicants for the ABC approach must complete an application for admission to the School of Graduate Studies, choosing “non-degree” as the status. An applicant would also need to contact the Admission’s Office and notify them that this non-degree status is for the ABC program. Also, it would be helpful if applicants would submit or bring a copy of the letter received from the Alabama SDE to the Graduate Office. This will facilitate the registration process and insure that the correct courses are being taken.
NOTICE: Certification based on the following approaches may ONLY be requested by an employing Alabama county/city superintendent or non-public school administrator. An individual should contact the school system or eligible non-public school in which employment is desired for information concerning job availability.
