A message from the Dean
Welcome to UWA’s College of Business and Technology! The University’s slogan, “DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS,” is more than a charge for students to set and attain goals. It also is a commitment from all of us here at UWA that we will strive to “DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS” each day in our efforts to provide the very best academic experience for you, our students. YOU matter to us!
The University of West Alabama is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and education specialist degrees. The College of Business and Technology is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) to offer the following degrees: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance, Management, and Marketing. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is not currently accredited by ACBSP, yet is a candidate for accreditation this year. ACBSP does not accredit the Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Engineering Technology and Technology, and the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Industrial Maintenance. In addition to earning the aforementioned degrees on campus, the BBA degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, and Marketing; the MBA; and the BS degree in Technology may be obtained completely online.
At the forefront of our strengths are well-qualified and student-oriented faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing quality education and place great emphasis on preparing graduates for leadership roles in the local, national, and global communities. A low student-to-faculty ratio (18:1) affords more individualized attention, thus improving the learning process and outcomes for students.
Other benchmarks vital to the process include a timely and relevant curriculum, “hands-on” learning opportunities that enhance career prospects and job placement (e.g., internships, job shadowing programs, service learning activities, and consulting projects), technologically advanced classrooms, and a wide range of student organizations and honor societies available for membership and leadership opportunities.
The College is actively engaged with business and industry, governmental units, and public institutions through various outreach activities aimed at positively impacting economic and community development, as well as quality of life for students and constituents. I invite you to check out links to our Center for Business & Entrepreneurial Services and the Small Business Development Center.
Our goal is to prepare you for a successful and meaningful career, while simultaneously helping you grow and develop as a person. We strongly believe that you can succeed academically and thoroughly enjoy your total college experience as well. Come join our family and “DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS!”
