Assistant Professor of Theatre

Effective Date: August 13, 2019


The Assistant Professor of Theatre is a nine-month faculty position. The successful candidate will be chiefly responsible for overseeing the Theatre Program, teaching a variety of theatre classes, and directing one production per semester. The position reports directly to the Chairperson of Fine Arts.




1. M.F.A. or PhD in Theatre or Acting from an accredited institution

2. Ability to teach classes in Acting, Directing, and History

3. Directing experience at the collegiate level

4. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills

5. Ability to work successfully with diverse populations in the regional university



1. Demonstrated teaching success at the college level

2. Demonstrated activity in professional organizations

2. Experience working with other aspects of theatre production in addition to directing

3. Experience in recruiting and curriculum development

5. Accreditation in stage combat

6. Specific experience teaching voice/speech/diction

7. Interest in musical theatre production

8. Experience with children’s theatre and/or childhood education



1. Build on current successes in the developing Theatre Program

2. Function as the primary director of UWA Theatre productions

3. Coordinate promotion of UWA Theatre productions

4. Oversee UWA Theatre social media

5. Recruit students to participate in the Theatre Program

6. Develop curriculum and course offerings as needs arise

7. Assist in coordinating the use of production spaces

8. Teach classes in Acting, Directing, and History


Rank & Salary:

Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position with some production duties; salary commensurate with training and experience: includes excellent benefits package.
