Instructional Coach (Project REACh)

Effective Date: November 9, 2020



  1. Master’s degree

  2. Certified in any specific teaching area

  3. Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs

  4. Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners

  5. Demonstrates leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback

  6. Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions

  7. Demonstrates teacher leadership

  8. Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise

  9. Demonstrates expertise in oral and written communication

  10. Strong interpersonal skills

  11. Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieve

  12. Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.


  1. Specialist/Ed.D./Ph.D. degree preferred


  1. Support the instructional development of teacher residents in understanding the CCSS curriculum and varied assessments, best practices, and data analysis

  2. Build strong relationships with teacher residents, mentor teachers, administrators, and other coaches

  3. Create an observation schedule with building administration

  4. Assist teacher residents with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources and edTPA requirements

  5. Support teacher residents in using data to improve instruction on all levels

  6. Assist teacher residents with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students

  7. Support teacher residents by providing needed professional development, teaching multiple instructional strategies/processes

  8. Observe informally (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher resident’s professional growth and students’ success

  9. Develop teacher resident’s knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs

  10. Provide job-embedded professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility

  11. Attend all project administration meetings

  12. Attend all summer training sessions

  13. Keep documentation for all professional development opportunities provided to mentor teachers and teacher residents, reporting quarterly

  14. Submit a weekly coaching log for teacher residents, with meeting minutes and participants listed

  15. Submit weekly observation notes for teacher residents

  16. Collect, analyze and prepare quarterly reports documenting student academic outcomes

Salary: The position is salaried at $50,000, with benefits. This detailed job opportunity is a grant-funded position. There is no guarantee of employment provided when grant funds expire.
