STEM Education Institute Coordinator

Project INSPIRE, in partnership with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Education at the University of West Alabama are seeking applicants for a part-time position for Coordinator of the proposed University of West Alabama STEM Education Institute (UWA-SEI). We seek an individual who is motivated to help us positively impact STEM education in UWA’s service area. INSPIRE (Implementing Novel STEM Practices in Rural Education) is an NSF-funded Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program designed to attract talented young students into STEM teaching certification programs, provide them with a rich and effective academic experience, and assist in placing them in high-need school districts in the UWA service area.
The UWA-SEI Coordinator must be available to meet with the INSPIRE team and with the Institute, as well as contributing approximately eight to ten hours weekly on administrative and outreach activities. Scheduling is flexible. Salary for this position is $12,000. Benefits are not included. As this position is externally funded, there is no guarantee of continuance of employment.
Education: Masters or Ph.D. in STEM field with teacher certification.
Experience: (a) Background in secondary STEM education. (b) Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (c) Ability to prioritize and complete projects within a deadline desired.
Participate in development of Stem Education Institute.
Work with Project INPSIRE team and STEM Education Institute to develop strategies for enhancing STEM education in UWA.
Coordinate interaction between Project INSPIRE and UWA STEM academic departments.
Facilitate interaction between UWA and school districts in service area.
Oversee development and maintenance of STEM education resources.
