INSPIRE Graduate Research Assistant

Project INSPIRE, in partnership with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Education at the University of West Alabama are seeking applicants for a graduate research assistantship. We seek an individual who wishes to pursue graduate study in STEM education and who is motivated to help us positively impact STEM education in UWA’s service area. INSPIRE (Implementing Novel STEM Practices in Rural Education) is an NSF-funded Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program designed to attract talented young students into STEM teaching certification programs, provide them with a rich and effective academic experience, and assist in placing them in high-need school districts in the UWA service area.

 

The Project INSPIRE Graduate Research Assistant will work twenty hours weekly, providing administrative support for the program and conducting research evaluating the impact of project activities on students, schools and the community. Support includes a $12,000 stipend for one academic year (fall and spring semesters), as well as six hours per semester tuition relief. In addition, the student will have the opportunity to apply for an additional stipend for summer support. Benefits are not provided.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Student must be enrolled in a Masters program in STEM education.

  2. Experience: Background in secondary STEM education desirable but not required. Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with social media desirable.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist UWA Stem Education Institute Coordinator with administrative duties.

  2. Assist in planning and coordination of seminars and workshops.

  3. Collect data and conduct research on impacts of INSPIRE program.

  4. Coordinate Project INSPIRE marketing and social media.

  5. Oversee development and maintenance of STEM education resources.
