Graduate Assistant - Student Affairs Representative/Cheerleading Coach

Qualifications

Required:

        1. Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

        2. Candidate must be accepted in a graduate program at The University of West Alabama

        3. Prior college cheerleading experience preferred

        4. Prior coaching experience preferred

        5. Ability to interact and work with students, staff, and administration

        6. Must have own transportation and current driver’s license

        7. Available for office hours every week, and some evenings for practice

        8. Strong written and oral communication skills

        9. Strong public speaking and presentation skills

        10. Ability to form positive working relationships with staff in other campus offices

        11. Positive, professional attitude and a high level of energy and enthusiasm

        12. Willingness to travel when required

Responsibilities

The Graduate Assistant Cheerleading Coach/Student Affairs Representative is responsible day-to-day operations of The University of West Alabama Cheerleading Team along with duties as assigned in the area of Student Affairs. Under the supervision of the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs for The University of West Alabama, this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

 

Cheer

  1. Plan and coordinate all practices and appearances for cheer team, including mascot

  2. Attend and supervise all home football games, all home men’s and women’s basketball games, and selected volleyball games, as well as, post season games when required.

  3. Attend all cheer practices, clinics, camps, and try-outs for team

  4. Reserve spaces through facility management

  5. Create and manage the cheer program budget

  6. Order, distribute, and collect all cheer team issued equipment

  7. Work with cheer team to market the program on campus through community events

  8. Establish itineraries for travel to some away games, and may be required to drive campus vans

  9. Recruit quality student-athletes

  10. Instruct proper technique, choreography, and conditioning

  11. Comply with rules and policies of The University of West Alabama

  12. Knowledge of NCAA and UCA rules and regulations

  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Student Affairs Representative

  1. Represent the University at school visits and college day and night programs

  2. Visit junior colleges and high schools to recruit students. Explain and respond to questions about academic programs, scholarships, student activities, financial aid, and housing consideration to students, parents, and educators.

  3. Conduct campus visit appointments with prospective students

  4. Facilitate collaborative relationships with various University offices, including Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Athletics.

  5. Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Salary: Part-time position; $1,000 monthly stipend (July – April); FREE 12-month on-campus housing (includes shared apartment, utilities, cable, and internet valued at $500/month)
