The College of Business and Technology at UWA provides many services to communities throughout the Black Belt region to promote economic development and assist business owners in our area.
Small Business Development Center
The mission of the Small Business Development Center at The University of West Alabama is to grow the economy in the western region of Alabama, known as the Black Belt, by providing entrepreneurs with the education, information and tools necessary to build successful businesses. The Center services are targeted to Choctaw, Clarke, Marengo, Sumter, and Wilcox counties.
Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Supportive Services
The University of West Alabama DBE Supportive Services (UWA DBESS) provides resources, individual business counseling, group training, and technical assistance to ALDOT certified DBE’s, minority, disadvantage, and women firms to contribute to the firm’s growth and self-sufficiency.
Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Services
The Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Services’ (CBES) mission is twofold:

provide training and other direct services to support the business and industry community and;

provide the citizens of Alabama’s Black Belt region with the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully launch new entrepreneurial endeavors, create viable and sustainable small business ventures, retain and expand existing small businesses, and build capacity through community, economic, and workforce development projects.
