Phi Alpha Theta The Alpha Theta Omicron chapter of Phi Alpha Theta was founded on the campus of UWA by Dr. Walter E. Pittman in 1997. Phi Alpha Theta encourages the free exchange of ideas among students and faculty from all parts of campus. Every year, the Alpha Theta Omicron chapter grants three awards: Best Student in the American History Sequence, Best Student in the Western Civ Sequence, and Outstanding History Senior. Demonstrating the inclusiveness of the honor society, the first two awards are granted without regard to major. Phi Alpha Theta is one of the oldest and largest honors societies in the nation. Membership benefits include lifetime membership in the society and bonus points on the civil service exam.
