  • Physical Education: Sport Management (Non-Teaching) Program Requirements

The University of West Alabama’s Department of Physical Education offers an emphasis in Sport Management. Students who decide to major in Physical Education Sport Management will also receive a minor in Business.

Sport Management is a term that refers to “all people, activities, businesses, and organizations involved in producing, facilitating, promoting, or organizing any product that is sport, fitness, and recreation related” (Pitts and Stotlar, 2002). Therefore, we provide students with a basic educational background that provides the knowledge to work in interscholastic, intercollegiate and professional sports, professional organizations, physical fitness clubs, facility and event management, community-base and recreation programs, sport retail and marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Students who choose to pursue a sport management career may find themselves as a head coach, senior women’s administrator, academic counselor, sports information director, recruiting coordinator, facilities manager, video service coordinator, equipment manager, tickets director, sports editor, marketing director, public relations manager, web developer, and vendor correspondent. But the list does not stop there. Sport Management could be your next big thing!
