The Department of Physical Education and Athletic Training at the University of West Alabama offers the undergraduate degree that leads to Physical Education teaching certification, as granted by the Alabama State Department of Education. Graduates of the Physical Education – Teacher Education (PETE) program are certified to teach in the state of Alabama and in states with reciprocal agreements with Alabama. Through participating in this degree program, students learn to use exercise, sport, games, recreation, and dance to develop instructionally and developmentally suitable programs for P/12 students, as well as for adults and senior citizens. The PETE program endorses a healthy lifestyle and encourages the development of self-esteem and multicultural awareness. The Department of Physical Education and Athletic Training at The University of West Alabama truly believes, as well as promotes, being an effective T.E.A.M. player!
