    Qualifications

    Required:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • Vocational painter with a minimum of 2 years of experience
    • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to interact professionally with all members of the University community and external public
    • Valid Driver's License

    Desired:

    • Experience operating a bucket truck and different types of man lifts
    • Proficient with a spray gun
    • Capable of finishing drywall

    Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor for The University of West Alabama, the Painter will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • Apply paint to walls, floors, doors, ceilings and other items using brushes, paint rollers, spray cans, spray guns
    • Preparing surfaces to paint with caulk, drywall tape, joint compound, and others as needed
    • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, surfaces prior to painting
    • Removing pictures, switch covers, boards from wall and others prior to painting
    • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment/tools such as rollers, brushes, etc.  
    • Cleaning exterior surfaces by sprayers and pressure washing
    • Inspecting buildings for needed repairs by the established procedure
    • Other duties may include working in other areas of the carpentry department to meet the goals of the department
    • Able to effectively manage time and complete work within reasonable time
    • Some overtime work will be required

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    • Periodically performing work outside during all times of the year
    • Working on ladders or scaffolding to reach high ceilings or walls
    • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling and reaching
    • Transporting moderately heavy items at times
    • There may be a high level of walking required in this position
    • Operation of University vehicles may be required
