The University of West Alabama began offering online programs in Fall 2002. Currently over 2,500 students are enrolled in online courses, 98 percent of those in graduate level teacher education degree programs. Students enrolled in online courses utilize a number of technologies to both enhance learning and ensure integrity. The Blackboard Learning Management System is the platform on which courses are housed. UWA has implemented a variety of hardware and software, such as turnitin® and the Securexam Remote Proctor®, to give students the ultimate in convenience, while ensuring the credibility of the degree.
UWA Online offers 24 graduate programs and three undergraduate degrees courses completely online. UWA online courses are offered in an eight-week format. Five sessions are offered each year. This format allows online students to complete their program at an accelerated pace. The cost of each undergraduate semester hour of credit is $429; the cost of each graduate semester hour of credit is $477. A scholarship program for active military members is also available. There are also no residency requirements.
