    Fall 2014 Orientation
    REQUIRED: Orientation Registration and Attendance
    Begins Monday, August 11, 2014
    All new international students are required to participate in an orientation program prior to their first semester at UWA. Orientation sessions will begin Monday, August 11, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in the Student Union Building Conference Room and end on Thursday, August 14, 2014 with complimentary transportation to Birmingham, AL to go shopping before classes begin Monday, August 18, 2014.

    Getting to Livingston

    We want to advise you that there is no public transportation available to Livingston from Birmingham, AL (BHM) or Meridian, MS (MEI), the closest airports to Livingston. Taxi transportation from Birmingham can cost over $200 and from Meridian, MS well over $150.

    Sign up for Orientation and transportation from Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Livingston
    Friday, August 8 pickup from Atlanta Airport (ATL).

    A one-time $175.00 fee is required. Note: If you arrive Thursday, August 7, you will be picked up after 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time and you will add $50.00 for an extra night’s lodging and breakfast, adjusted total $225.00.
     The $175.00 charge will cover the following:
    • Orientation registration fee
    • Pick up at Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Friday, August 8, 2014.
    • Hotel accommodations for your time in Atlanta, GA
    • Opportunity to shop in Atlanta
    • Transportation from Atlanta to Livingston
    • For your dorm room: bed linens, pillow, towel and wash cloth, shower curtain, personal care items
    • A limited number of meals

    Option II
    If you choose to arrange your own transportation to Livingston, sign up for Orientation by forwarding a $50.00 registration fee and completed registration form to International Programs no later than May 31, 2014. Click here

    A one-time $50.00 Orientation registration fee and completed registration form are required and must be submitted to International Programs no later than May 31.

    The information you will receive and activities you will take part in have been developed to assist you transition between your home country and the University of West Alabama. 
    The program provides information concerning:
    • services available
    • adjustment to the academic, social and cultural environment
    • immigration matters
    • student organizations
    • health insurance
    • safety and security provisions
    • pre-enrollment placement testing
    • academic programs and advising
    • step-by-step instructions on how to create a student account.
    • Livingston, Sumter County, and the surrounding area

    The orientation schedule will be emailed to you in July.
