<p><br />The University of West Alabama Library Media Program invites you to its 2013 West Alabama Library Leadership Symposium to participate in one of the most important events of the year for Alabama School Librarians. Meg Lowry and DeDe Coe of the ALSDE’s Department of Instructional Services, Library Media, will present an all-day seminar/ training session on the School Librarian’s role in collaborating with the school’s other stakeholders to implement and support the new Alabama College and Career Ready Standards. As Meg states, “Let’s not waste this opportunity for a school library renaissance.”</p>
<p><br />The symposium will be held at the Livingston Civic Center, adjacent to the UWA campus, Thursday, January 31, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will receive a report on the state of school librarianship in Alabama as well as intensive discussion and training on their role in helping implement CCRS. The cost of registration is $20, which in- cludes morning snacks and lunch on-site.</p>
<p><br />For those who arrive early or wish to stay late, UWA will also offer an optional (free) one-hour workshop at 8:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. (same workshop) on the rewards and challenges of online learning.<br />Seating is limited so please register early. Once your registration form and payment have been processed, you will receive an email with driving directions to the civic center as well as a tentative schedule, STIPD numbers and other important information for the day.</p>
<p><br />The first participants to register (at least 30!) will receive a FREE T-SHIRT. Please mark your size preference on the form, and the earliest registrants will receive your shirts at the symposi- um. Size choice cannot be guaranteed after January 17.</p>
