The University of West Alabama Tiger Bass Club will compete in the 6th annual Bassmaster College Classic on Feb. 23 at Lay Lake near Birmingham, Ala. The competitors will weigh in live at 3:30 p.m. on bassmaster.com.

"Our team is excited to participate in this regional event with anglers from several states," said UWA Tiger Bass Club Coach Doyle Truelove. "The college fishing circuit has grown tremendously in the last few years, and we are eager to make a name for UWA in the circuit with our new club."

Part of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series, UWA Tiger Bass Club anglers James Brumbelow and Andrew Warbington will represent the University in the competition alongside 26 competitors from thirteen universities and community colleges across the country.

The college anglers will weigh in prior to the 55 professional anglers competing in the 2014 GEICO Bassmaster Classic at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex.

This year’s College Classic is a different format than in prior years.
“As the college property has grown, we have seen the need to make this tournament available to more schools. Now, at each year’s Bassmaster Classic, we will offer one spot to each registered in-state institution as well as the defending champions,” said Hank Weldon, manager of the college program at B.A.S.S.
The University of Oklahoma won the title last year and will send students Landon Dixon and Caleb Masters to defend the school’s 2013 championship.

The winner of the 2014 challenge advances to the seventh annual matchup in February 2015 in Greenville, S.C.
