The University of West Alabama’s Theatre Program presents Eric Coble’s “The Dead Guy” at UWA’s Hunt Annex on Oct. 16-19 at 7:30 p.m.

“ ‘The Dead Guy’ is an exciting new play from an up and coming playwright that tackles modern concerns in a way that is fresh and inventive, said Director of Theatre, Arthur Grothe.

Coble’s humorous satire of people’s modern fascination with the reality of other peoples lives starts with a tantalizing Pitch: You get one million dollars to spend over the next seven days. A camera crew follows your every move and broadcasts your adventures on national television. However, the Hook adds a layer of macabre fascination: At the end of the week – you die. The most tantalizing part is: the viewing audience gets to vote for the method of death. For hard-luck Eldon Phelps, the deal is irresistible. But does America have the stomach for this much reality?

“I think one of the main purposes of theatre is to entertain, but it should also inform the audience. ‘The Dead Guy’ does both by being a dark comedy that satirizes the perils of ‘Reality TV’ and revealing the human connection that we all long for,” said Grothe.

Cast members include Andy McElroy; Sonya McNair; Semaj King; Gordon Warner; Sheila Rew; Crystal Sanders; Whitney Nelson; Chelsea Harcrow; Bekah Beckham; Brittany Walker; and Martell Pearson.

The postcard artwork for “The Dead Guy” was created by UWA’s printing department.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. nightly at UWA’s Bibb Graves Auditorium. General admission is $10. UWA students, faculty and staff are admitted free with proper ID. For more information or to reserve tickets, call 205-652-3633.
