• UWA to host Certified Nursing Assistant Program

     The University of West Alabama’s Division of Outreach Services will host a Career Pathways for Youth Certified Nursing Assistant program for qualifying community members at the Demopolis Higher Education Center in Demopolis, Ala. beginning Aug. 27, 2013. 

    The program is offered to ages 16-21 who earned high school diploma or GED but lack the skills needed for long-term employment. This short-term training program combines classroom learning with work experience to prepare participants for jobs at health-care facilities in West Alabama. This initiative among others is part of the program’s mission to make a positive impact in the Black Belt communities. 

    Through the program, students will put what they learn in the classroom into practice by completing at least 24 hours of clinical work experience at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home in Demopolis, Ala. The program will also teach students how to prepare a resume’ and learn basic computer skills.

    The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. ADECA manages an array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

    Applications and eligibility requirements are available for pick up at the Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home, Demopolis Career Center, Demopolis Higher Education Center and the Division of Outreach Services office located at UWA, Guy Hunt Hall, Suite 122, Livingston, Ala.
