• Sumter County Fine Arts Council announces 2011-12 season

    The Sumter County Fine Arts Council has announced its 2011-12 entertainment line-up, which features a variety of performances in the University of West Alabama’s Bibb Graves Auditorium. The season keeps with Alabama Department of Tourism’s “Year of Alabama Music.”

    The season debuts Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Ariel Quartet, grand prize winners of the 2006 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Members, though only in their twenties, celebrate the Quartet’s tenth anniversary, having performed extensively in Israel, Europe, and North America.

    Last season, the Quartet participated in a Beethoven cycle at the National Gallery and served as the string quartet accompaniment to the competitors at the 13th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition.

    Tickets are non-members are $10 for adults and $2 for students. UWA students are admitted free with a valid student ID.

    The Sucarnochee Revue
    April 20, 2012, 7 p.m.

    The SCFAC also annually sponsors a pair of Birmingham Children’s Theatre performances for local schoolchildren, the UWA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, a spring art and photography show, and craft demonstrations during the Sucarnochee Folklife Festival.

    The council receives support from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, The University of West Alabama, and other agencies, businesses, individuals.
