This one-day recertification course is required for Alabama Certified Burn Managers to maintain their certification. The session will carry approximately 6 hours of continuing education credit for Alabamaregistered foresters and Society of American Foresters. Eligible members of the wildlife society can also apply for CFE.
Burn Manager Certification is for a five (5) year period, and requires renewal every five (5) years. In order for a certification to be renewed, six (6) hours of continuing education on prescribed burning must be earned. Burners who do not meet this standard will have their certification expire. Courses and topics that would meet the continuing education requirements would include but are not limited to: fire behavior courses, fire behavior calculations courses, ignition operations courses, fuels and fuelsmodeling courses, fire effects courses, smoke management courses and any course offered or sponsored by the Alabama Forestry Commission specifically for the purpose of providing continuing education for prescribed burning.
