Technical Director and Instructor of Theatre
Effective Date: August 1, 2013, or sooner
The Technical Director is a twelve-month professional staff position chiefly responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of campus performance spaces. In particular, the Technical Director coordinates the use of historic Bibb Graves Auditorium for numerous events, including college productions as well as those of outside performance groups, supervises the design and construction of theatre sets, and teaches classes in stagecraft. The Technical Director reports directly to the Chairperson of Fine Arts.
Qualifications:
Required
- M.F.A. or M.A. in a theatre discipline
- Ability to teach classes in stagecraft
- Ability to oversee set construction and student crews
- Experience in coordinating use of theatre/auditorium space
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to work effectively with all facets of the University community and with the general public
Desired:
- M.F.A. in a technical theatre discipline
- Successful teaching experience at the college level
- Experience working with college-level theatre productions
- Ability to teach a variety of classes in the theatre minor
- Competency in Vectorworks, SFX, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience in carpentry, electrics, and welding
- Experience in setting up and operating portable sound equipment
Responsibilities:
- Assume primary responsibility for the management of a large, historic theatre venue
- Serve as production manager of UWA Theatre productions
- Coordinate and schedule use of theatre/auditorium space
- Train students in lighting and sound systems
- Serve as head safety officer for shop and stage
- Teach one class per semester
- Maintain theatre production systems, chart repairs and maintenance, and maintain and update supply inventories
- Participate in the strategic planning process for UWA Theatre production facilities and UWA Theatre
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Rank & Salary: Professional staff position with some teaching duties; salary dependent upon training and experience; includes excellent benefits package.
