    MAJOR IN SOCIOLOGY

    Core Curriculum Requirements 

    Students transferring from Alabama public two-year and four-year colleges and universities should consult the AGSC site for complete details regarding Areas I-IV for all majors, including the list of approved courses for each institution. Specific requirements for students majoring in Sociology at Alabama public two-year schools and for UWA pre-Sociology majors are included below. 

    AREA I -- Written Composition (6 semester hours) 

    AGSC: No specific courses required for Sociology majors beyond the AGSC requirements.

    EH 103 and 104, Honors English I and II

    AREA II -- Humanities and Fine Arts (15 semester hours) 

    AGSC: No specific courses required for Sociology majors beyond the AGSC requirements. 

    UWA: Students planning to complete the bachelor's degree in Sociology are required to complete the pattern in humanities and fine arts as listed below:

    or, for Honors students, one of the the three courses listed above and
    HR 100, Honors Forum
    HR 200, Honors Special Topics: Interdisciplinary

    THR 126, Introduction to Theatre
     

     

    AREA III -- Natural Sciences and Mathematics (15 semester hours) 

    AGSC: Students planning to complete the bachelor's degree in Sociology are required to complete the pattern in natural science and mathematics as listed below:

    AGSC: No specific requirements for Sociology majors beyond the AGSC requirements. 

    UWA: Students planning to major in Sociology at UWA should select one history sequence and two social science courses, as indicated below:
