The University of West Alabama’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites the public to the next in its series of Science Coffee Shop on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Coffee Shop on Monroe in Livingston, Ala. Dr. Brian Keener, UWA professor, will present a discussion entitled “Studying the Flora of Alabama in the 21st Century.”

Science Coffee Shop is designed to give the public exposure to the world of science. The event highlights relevant, interesting or current science topics in a casual and relaxed setting with UWA’s faculty and staff.

“We hope this series engages the community to discuss important topics with our faculty and staff. We hope the discussions will become a dynamic, two-way communication between a scientist and the public,” Morsy said.

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics provide a similar workshop to area students called Science Saturday, and Morsy reveals that Science Coffee Shop is basically an “adult version of Science Saturday.”

Each Science Coffee Shop should last 45 minutes but can be extended based on the debates and discussion.

The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Dr. Mustafa Morsy or call 205-652-5541.
