The University of West Alabama has been named among the fastest growing campuses between 2000 and 2010 by The Chronicle of Higher Education. In the publication’s 2012-13 almanac, the Chronicle ranks UWA number two on its list of public master’s institutions.

The listing compares institutions’ Fall 2000 and Fall 2010 enrollment figures to determine the increase each institution has experienced. UWA’s enrollment increased from 1,924 to 5,094 over the 10-year period, a 164.8 percent increase. This increase is second only to that of Florida Gulf Coast University, 227.9 percent.

With a campus growing to accommodate its increasing number of on-campus students, the University has also seen growth in its highly reputable online education programs.

“Much of UWA's recent growth is attributable to the success of its online offerings, particularly the master's and education specialist degree programs in a wide range of areas. The University's online program has been a pacesetter in the field of distance education, providing the same rigor and integrity as an on-campus experience," explained UWA Provost David M. Taylor.

Other institutions ranked among the top 20 for their gains in enrollment include Texas A&M International University, University of Maryland College, University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and Arkansas Tech University, nine of which experienced a gain of less than 100 percent.

In July, the University was ranked by The National Research Center for College and University Admissions among the top 10 universities declared by Alabama’s high school seniors. The top 25 schools declared by these students were among eight states.

Established in 1835, UWA offers associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and education specialist degree programs, both through traditional on-campus programs and through online education. For more information on programs at UWA visit www.uwa.edu.
