The University of West Alabama’s Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education is currently accepting nominations and applications for awards recognizing achievement among the region’s most outstanding educators. Submissions for the prestigious honors will be received through April 16.

The Tutwiler Educator of the Year awards, named for the institution’s first president, Julia S. Tutwiler, will honor excellence in education by identifying outstanding educators in the areas of P-6 Teacher, 7-12 Teacher, School Counselor, Instructional Leader, and Library Media Specialist. Educators can be employed at any school that holds a partnership with the University of West Alabama. It is not limited to schools in the west Alabama area.

There are two avenues for which someone can be nominated: a peer, colleague, or supervisee can initiate the nomination by submitting an application package on behalf of the nominee. The nominator should complete the brief application and provide two letters of recommendation and a copy of the nominee’s resume.

Also, any P-12 educator can self-nominate for the award. Self-nominees should complete an application and upload two letters of recommendations and their resume.

With the honor comes $250 for the purchase of classroom supplies and professional development, a UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year certificate, and recognition at each winner’s home school. A member of the UWA community will present the award on behalf of the Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education.
