Nearly 60 women at the University of West Alabama participated in the University's Panhellenic sorority rush, and 45 women chose to pledge a sorority at school's annual Bid Day on Monday, Aug. 22 at Gilbert Hall Lawn.

The Panhellenic Council at the University provided the potential new members with five days of events and activities to discover their best fit in sorority life. This year's recruitment spanned five days with the grand finale, Bid Day.

"I am very proud of the Panhellenic Council this year. They worked very hard and did a great job, especially when considering the number of girls participating," Director of Student Life Byron Thetford said. "This was the largest recruitment that we have ever had here at UWA, but they came together and planned a great week for everyone."

On Thursday, Aug. 18, the rushees attended the Panhellenic Ice Cream Social, where the women had the opportunity to socialize with the three sororities, and on Friday, Aug. 19, potential new members discovered a more in depth view of each sorority at Sorority Information Night

On Saturday, Aug. 20, rushees attended a Panehellenic Unity Luncheon, and later that afternoon, the women attended Philanthropy night. During this portion, the potential new members learn about each sororities philanthropic work.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, the women attended Preference Night. For this event, the sorority extended invitations to rushees they are interested in becoming new members.

Alpha Sigma Alpha and Phi Mu each gained 17 new members, and Alpha Sigma Tau gained 11.
