The University of West Alabama will see a wide range of guests this weekend at a number of activities planned on campus. Saturday is UWA’s annual Family Day celebration.

Students will welcome their families at residence halls from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour residences and several other facilities during these hours with their student family member.

The time-honored tradition of the Tiger Walk begins at 2:45 p.m. where students, families, and UWA fans will greet the Tiger football team, bands, and cheerleaders for the season’s first home game.

Following the Tiger Walk, students and their families can enjoy an early family dinner at Young Hall Cafeteria from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. The cost is $5 per family member for a meal. Tickets for the football game will be given to student family members at this time.

UWA cheerleaders and the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land will gather near Tiger Stadium’s home side gate for a pep rally at 5 p.m. The band will take the field at 5:50 for a pre-game performance.

At 6 p.m., the number 12 ranked UWA Tigers will face former GSC foe Mississippi College on the gridiron for the season’s first home event.

The UWA Bookstore will be open from noon until 6 p.m. and will hold a sidewalk sale in the lobby of the Student Union Building.

Other events scheduled for the day include a Lab Rats Reunion sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations. More than 200 students who attended Livingston Laboratory School at Livingston State Teacher’s College (now UWA) between 1922 and 1970 will enjoy special activities including a tour of their former school at Foust Hall. Bertram Jenkins and the Lab Rat Band will provide entertainment at the event.
