• Echols, Cunningham voted Mr. and Miss UWA

     University of West Alabama students named Keonna Echols and Kirstan Cunningham among their favorites, deeming the pair Mr. and Miss UWA 2011.

    Echols, a junior nursing major from Tuscaloosa, considers her top achievements at UWA being listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, serving as a University Ambassador, being crowned 2010 Homecoming queen, and joining Blue Key Honor Society.

    Echols is also active in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Omega, Campus Activities Board, People Against a Littered State, Black Student Union, Student Government Association, and has served as an orientation leader. A Paul W. Bryant High School graduate, Echols is the daughter of James and Denettria Echols.

    Cunningham, a senior mathematics major from Montevallo, is Drum Major for the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land. He serves as president of Delta Chi Fraternity, a hall director for UWA Housing, and a tutor for Student Support Services.

    He is a member of Blue Key, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. The Montevallo High School graduate is the son of Kirk and Kathy Cunningham.
